Building on a smaller scale has its rewards

The small home movement is gaining a lot of traction, particularly with households who want to leave a smaller footprint on their environment. Architects are responding to the evolving demands of homeowners who seek functional spaces that blend with nature. The home featured in the video is the recipient of Fine Homebuilding’s 2013 Best Small Home Award. Situated in the Pacific Northwest, the 800-square-foot house represents a partnership between architect Nir Pearlson and homeowner Julie, who dreamed of creating a scaled down, personal sanctuary for herself and her husband.
